CIO Of the Fortnight

I am born and brought up in Mumbai and studied in a Convent School. I had to walk almost a kilometer every day to school as the place I was staying had poor connectivity by road in the early 70's and during rains was a messy affair. I was very happy to go to school as it allowed me to learn something new every day and also in touch with my friends. In my class I was always in the top 5 and actively participated in sports. My favorite sports are football and cricket.

My father worked for BARC and is My Role Model, I still remember my Father walking everyday about 6 kilometers up down to take his company bus to work and back so that he can give that much extra comfort to his 3 children, My mother is a house wife.

I am a Commerce graduate with a Diploma in Computer Science and have completed various certifications including Oracle DBA. To support my education financially, I gave home tuitions to students till my graduation and also worked part-time. After my graduation I had a brief stint with a company in Dubai where I came across computers and pondered how much impact it can make to my career path, hence I decided to leave the job and returned back to India.

After my diploma I immediately took up the job in a small time broking company in 1993 as a programmer and developed applications, which was appreciated by the management. Thereafter all throughout my career I have been associated with Financial services domain companies prominent among them are Transamerica Distribution Finance, Motilal Oswal, JM Financial and currently in IIFL Wealth Management Ltd as the Head of Technology. From being a programmer to heading IT team has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to rise to this level. In each of the companies that I have worked I was appreciated by the Management for dedication and hard work and innovativeness. Because of the confidence shown by the management I could deliver solutions in time to each of the organization. In JM Financial I was awarded 'Star Performer of the Year' and had a successful stint of 6 long years, wherein I was responsible for rolling out financial applications.

I joined IIFL Wealth Management in December 2009 as the Head of Technology, IIFL Wealth is a subsidiary company of India Infoline Ltd. IIFL is one of the largest wealth management organization in the country and its name stands tall amongst the best in the Industry Today. IIFL's goal is to be the 'NO.1 in WEALTH MANAGMENT', with its presence in India and abroad and fast expanding reach.

Here in IIFL Wealth though the journey has just begun with staff strength of around 300 Associates. I manage a medium sized infrastructure which involves the highly critical dealing desk of around 100 terminals, with connectivity to the NSE and BSE Exchanges besides the CTCL Software. I handle a team of highly talented developers and implementers besides Network Engineers. In my short tenure I have been successful in rolling out the Wealth Management Application and our Website (www.iiflw.com), wherein the client can access their holdings and Gain losses, Asset Allocation reports every day. We also have client profiling on the website in which the client can measure their risk appetite besides a lot of informative materials. My aim is to introduce application virtualization and deploy the wealth application on Cloud and have been working very closely with the application service providers. Besides this I am also working on providing a DR Solution for the organization and the IIFL Group Companies.

I believe in 2 principals
Principal 1. Everything is possible with Technology if you have Logic /understand Logic
Principal 2. Planning, Hard work and Determination brings you success.

On the Family front, my wife Lovena has been supportive and has been pampering me with delicious food she has given up her Merchandising career and has taken up the role of housewife to take care of my son Dylan studying in the 4th standard. Dylan likes drawing beautiful colorful pictures and has been giving me the breaking news every day when I reach home.

On a Holiday you can find me playing football. My favorite team is Chelsea, besides I also like to watch Formula-1, McLaren being my favorite team and favorite driver Louis Hamilton. I am available on social networking websites Facebook and Orkut and LinkedIn.

On the way ahead I believe I have a lot to contribute to Technology and being networked with senior professionals would help when they share their wealth of experience. Sharing Knowledge is the key for growth and also helps individuals develop themselves.

What I hate most in India is people eating PAAN and coloring the walls everywhere and anywhere you visit leaving a bad sight for our tourist guests and also fellow Indians, rest assured India is the BEST COUNTRY TO LIVE IN and I LOVE INDIA.
